He started his career as a happy composer with 'Anandhan' in 1942, contributed immensely for nearly half a century, before surrendering in 1990 with 'muruganE thuNai'. KVM is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters. His hits include Sankarabharanam, Kandan Karunai, Vasantha Maaligai, Vietnam Veedu, Padikkatha Methai and Vaanambaadi. Known for mythologicals such as Sampoorna Ramayanam and Thiruvilayadal, KVM is said to have been a path-breaker in blending classical music with film music and was a `guru' to many music directors.
Health reasons hastened the end of his career in the mid- nineties.
